Sera Monastery is one of the Three Great Monasteries of Lhasa and a principal institution of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chöjé Shākya Yeshe, a disciple of Je Tsongkhapa, Sera Monastery is renowned for its rigorous study of Buddhist philosophy and its long tradition of monastic debate.
